7/2/2023 0 Comments Reviews of zoolz cloud storage![]() ![]() Unfortunately Zoolz appears to see no problem with Lifetime customers being unable to perform backups for days at a time. While it's annoying that archives take longer it's not a large problem for my use case. According to Zoolz tech support "All lifetime users share the same backup bandwidth channel which may sometimes results in backup malfunctions and interruptions." - This change explains the slowdowns and interrupts I've seen in archiving my files. What's Changed - Zoolz has downgraded the service for Lifetime Plan customers. For my lite usage backup speeds were fine. Most "issues" could be traced to Internet or PC problems. Situation - 2016-09 purchased 500GB Lifetime Plan - 2018-12 upgraded with the purchase of 1.5TB Lifetime Plan - Fairly lite user of the cold storage ~ once/day - Use about 360GB of the 1.5TB of cold storage - Rarely if ever use the Instant Vault storage Experience - Until this year I rarely had an issue with Zoolz itself. If I were a Lifetime customer with a heavier usage scenario I doubt I'd give them more than half a star. Now the most I can give them is one and a half stars. ![]() Overall before this year (2020) I would've given Zoolz a four star rating as a Lifetime customer since it worked fine in my lite usage scenario. Went From 4 Stars to 1 Star for Lifetime Customers Zoolz started out as a great service, but now we are just left in the cold. Another problem I faced a few times, is the limit to upload folders containing more than 1000 files using the web interface, which I easily do if I shoot more than 500 pictures in a day. Even as an amateur photographer, whom wants to backup my photos, Zoolz is just too limited. As a lifetime plan user, I can't recommend this service to anyone. Luckily enough though, most of my photos are under 8MB (16MP) since I use JPEG-files as previews for my RAW-files, which means that I still get thumbnails for most photos. I signed up for Zoolz and paid for a Lifetime plan to easily access all my photos using my Android-phone. Today I tried to access one of my files from my "Instant Vault" but found out that it's a total scam! I need to wait for an email to download a file that is less than 1MB in size? And getting this email seems to be hours or even days away. Spend your money on an iCloud or Dropbox upgrade. But the idea that they can't stop an abusive user from hogging all the bandwidth, or can't provide a usable service level to its earliest supporters, is crazy. Turn off Turbo Mode for Lifetime Users, even. I have no problem with Zoolz limiting upload speeds or download timeframes for Lifetime users. A month later, I only have 3050 files backed up (over 100,000 pending). I finally got the same support response: that all Lifetime users share the bandwidth and that I would have to wait for some to become available. Blaming myself, I even deleted all my computers and backups from the web console, reinstalled the software, etc. I got the dreaded "Please check your internet connection" error and contacted support after being unable to back up. However, I now find the product to be completely unusable. I didn't mind the delay in downloads from cold storage, because I purchased it as a backup solution that would only be used for disaster recovery. I too, bought the Lifetime Zoolz plan a few years ago. Before this, we will be sure to remind all users to retrieve their data before deletion. What will happen with my data? On October 15th account data will be deleted from our servers. Any Zoolz Home order made within the last 30 days will be fully refunded while any customers whose purchase date exceeds the previous 30-day limit and is under 12 months, will be partially refunded. How does this affect my account? All Zoolz Home users will have 14 days to retrieve their data from the cloud. Even with the many changes we’ve made to how we structured our cloud backup services, we’re unable to competitively service the consumer market. We entered it 15 years ago with the hope that we could make it accessible to anyone, both business and home users. What happened? The cloud backup market is a competitive one. Now they just cancelling accounts - see below: Dear Valued Customer, It is with deep regret that we inform you, effective immediately, our consumer service, Zoolz Home, will be discontinued in order to allow us to fully focus on the business and organization cloud backup market. Another fantastic news! Recently they demanded all lifetime users to pay them a "maintenance fee". ![]()
